  • MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Memphis Grizzlies are showing a knack for pulling out close games. The Philadelphia 76ers were just too young and too short-handed to stop that trend.Marc Gasol had 26 points and 12 rebounds, and Memphis finally put away the 76ers 96-91 on Tuesday night. The victory was the Grizzlies 11th straight that either went to OT or was decided by five points or fewer. Grizzlies coach David Fizdale said he hasnt determined the formula that allows the Grizzlies to escape in close encounters. All I know is that group in (the locker room) really believes in each other, and when it gets tough, they dig in, Fizdale said. They know how to rise to the occasion when it calls for it.To keep the streak going, Memphis scored the games final seven points, erasing Philadelphias lead with less than 2 minutes remaining, sending the Sixers to their eighth straight loss.We are all professionals, and we cant make excuses, said Philly forward Ersan Ilyasova, who led the Sixers with season bests of 23 points and 17 rebounds. We have no margin for error.Injuries and rest left the 76ers with only nine players dressed. But Philadelphia was scrappy enough to stay close until the closing minutes. When Dario Saric, who had 17 points, scored inside, the Sixers led 91-89 with 1:57 remaining. But Zach Randolph, who had 12 points and 14 rebounds, scored inside and Memphis made enough free throws in the closing minutes.JaMychal Green finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds, including a pair of free throws with 4 seconds left to seal the Grizzlies fourth straight win and 10th in the last 13.Philadelphia committed 16 turnovers and was 13 of 26 from the foul line, contributing to the downfall. We came down with nine guys, and you are playing against a veteran, tough, playoff, hard Memphis team, Sixers coach Brett Brown said. We had a chance to win the game, and I was proud of their effort.TIP-INSSixers: Earlier Tuesday, Philadelphia announced the hiring of recently retired forward Elton Brand as player development consultant. ... I think its very difficult to come into a new system and a new team and just pick it up right away. I think everybody has to do a better job.On Monday night, Osweiler was 22-for-41 for 131 yards without a touchdown. His 3.2 yards per attempt was the lowest in the league this season, according to ESPN Stats & Information. But his struggles have not been limited to just Monday night. According to Elias Sports Bureau, Osweiler became the first quarterback in league history to have three games in a single season with fewer than 200 yards on 40 attempts in each gamee -- and Osweiler did so by Week 7.dddddddddddd. His 5.72 yards per attempt this season is lower than the career averages of David Carr, Joey Harrington and JaMarcus Russell.I think he can play better, said OBrien, whose Texans lead the AFC South with a 4-3 record. I know that the receivers can run routes better. We continue to work and we continue to go down the same inconsistent road, but eventually we have to find consistency or were not going to be where we want to be.OBrien is no stranger to benching quarterbacks during his time in Houston, sitting Ryan Fitzpatrick, Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett at times during his first two years with the Texans. • PITTSBURGH -- Sidney Crosby cant seem to find the right word for whats happening. If the Pittsburgh Penguins captain is being honest, he is not really interested in finding one. He would rather just enjoy a hot streak that is bordering on absurd even by his remarkably high standards. The two-time MVPs 17 goals lead the NHL just over a quarter of the way into the season, even though he missed the first six games while recovering from a concussion. Even though injuries have forced head coach Mike Sullivan to shake up his lines. Even though Crosby insists he hasnt made some sort of conscious decision to pepper the opposing net.You can call it whatever you want, Crosby said.Just dont call it luck. You dont get puck luck (that many) times, teammate Patric Hornqvist said. I just think hes in the right spot at the right time.Over and over and over again. The games most creative player is in the midst of a rebirth at 29, a renaissance that coincided with Sullivans arrival last December. Its a union that has propelled Crosby to some of the finest hockey of his career. He captured the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP last June after the Penguins won their fourth Stanley Cup title and he hardly looked weary from a shorter than usual summer while captaining Team Canada to a remarkably easy stroll to the gold medal in the World Cup of Hockey in September. The player who appeared on the other side of his prime a year ago has reclaimed his spot as face of the sport and appears in no mood to give up the mantle anytime soon. Not that Crosby wants to talk about it. He figures hes just doing what hes always done.Im in the same spots, the same areas, said Crosby, who is putting the puck on net 3.5 times per game, just a slight uptick from with his usual average. When you think its going in you tend to shoot a little bit more because you feel good, you believe its going in ... When youre struggling a little bit, you feel you need to bring it closer or pass up a shot and make a pass. I think thats normal for everybody. Thats pretty common.Crosby never met a teammate he didnt like to set up, but maybe he is finally getting a little selfish. It wasnt always that way.Playing against him in the past, I would try to make sure I was taking away passing lanes from him, said forward Eric Fehr, who spent nine years facing Crosby while skating for Washington before signing with Pittsburgh in 2015. You dont really expect him to pull up and shoot. You see him coming down in a 3 on 2 youre expecting him to lay it in somewhere. I think thats changed him a little bit and that makes him tough to defend. The proof came Monday night against Ottawa. Crosby and Hornqvist broke in on the rush in the first period and even though Hornqvist had a step on the defender, Crosby ripped a wrist shot over Craig Andersons blocker instead. Then there are the things Crosby does that are nearly impossible to defend, instances when his ability to read a play before it happens puts him a split second ahead of everyone else on the ice. His team trailing by a goal as the seconds ticked down against New Jersey last month, Crosby stood calmly off to the side during a scramble in front of the net, let things sort themselves out then picked the puck out of a sea of bodies and casually flipped it over goaltender Keith Kincaide to send the game to overtime.Last week against Dallas, the athlete who once homered while taking batting practice at the home of baseballs Pittsburgh Pirates stunned everyone by trying to bank a shot in off Stars goaltender Antti Niemi from behind the net. When the puck bounced off Niemi and right back to him, Crosby swatted it out of midair . The puck smacked off the middle of Niemis back and into the goal.Only a few players in the league can bank those in and its always the same guys, Hornqvist said. If you have the skill, might as well do it.Its the type of thing that is happening for Crosby more and more and seems to represent his career coming full circle. Hes only led the NHL in goals once, when he poured in 51 in 2009-10. He was on his way to doing it again the following year when he a hit to the head in the 2011 Winter Classic against Washington sent him on a nomadic path back that robbed him of the better part of two seasons. Some wondered if the magic would ever return in full. Its also why the concussion he suffered in an early October practice raised so many alarm bells. Yet he preached calm instead of panic as he recovered, then went out and scored in his season debut against Florida as if to tell everyone to relax. It also started a run that shows no signs of slowing down.Theres no really great way to describe it, he said. You just hope it keeps going in.---This story has been corrected to delete a reference to a crosscheck to Crosbys head in the 2011 Winter Classic.Fake Air Max 97 For Sale . Louis Cardinals. • CLEVELAND -- Carlos Carrasco wasnt about to let a bug in his eye get in the way of winning a game.Carrasco overcame the bug -- followed by a home run one batter later -- and the Cleveland Indians defeated the Houston Astros 6-5 on Wednesday night. The game-time temperature was 87 degrees, causing swarms of midges to journey from Lake Erie to the muggy ballpark. A bug flew into Carrascos left eye as he threw a pitch to Yuli Gurriel in the fourth inning. That was weird, he said. I tried to throw a curveball and maybe threw it 20 feet.Carrasco bent over and a trainer made a brief visit to the mound. Gurriel singled on the next pitch and Colby Rasmus hit the first pitch into the seats in right field, giving Houston a 3-2 lead.It doesnt feel good, Carrasco said of the bug attack. Thats the first time this has happened to me but I had to come back and get people out.Carrasco (11-7) regrouped after the homer, allowing four runs in 7 1/3 innings.Players in the field and batters box spent the night slapping away the bugs. They were everywhere, Indians manager Terry Francona said. In the dugout its hard to sense it but when you get on the field, man, they were all over the place.Mike Napolis two-run homer off Doug Fister (12-11) gave Cleveland a 4-3 lead in the fifth. Pinch-hitter Brandon Guyer added a two-run double in the inning and the Indians extended their lead over Detroit to 5 1/2 games in the AL Central.Cody Allen gave up a leadoff single in the ninth, but struck out the next three batters, including Jose Altuve -- the ALs leading hitter -- to earn his 25th save. Those are situations you dont like them all the time but in hindsight you enjoy them, Allen said. Its competition at its best -- game on the line. Hes one of the best hitters in the game. The loss cost Houston a chance to gain ground in the AL wild card race. The Astros still trail Baltimore by two games.Houston still led by a run when Francisco Lindor singled to start the fifth. Napoli hit his 31st homer -- a 433-foot blast three-quarters of the way up the bleachers in left field.Guyer, batting for Tyler Naquin, doubled in two more runs off Kevin Chapman. The whole fifth inning was a problem for us, Astros manager A.J. Hinch said. We needed some guys to get some outs, but I didnt have a lot of guys available (out of the bullpen).Gurriel hit his first major league home run -- a two-run blast off Andrew Miller in the eighth.Lindor was 3 for 4 for his 23rd three-hit game, a major league high. Lonnie Chisenhall had three hits and an RBI for Cleveland.FIFTH SPOT UPDATEMike Clevinger will start for the Indians in Minnesota on Saturday. Vettel, who has already clinched his fourth straight F1 title, enters the finale with a chance to equal Michael Schumachers 13 victories in a year and match the record of nine consecutive wins by Alberto Ascari in the 1952 and 1953 seasons. The New Jersey Devils announced on Thursday that forward Ilya Kovalchuk is retiring from the NHL. "After many conversations with Ilya over the past year on his desire to retire from the National Hockey League, Ilyas decision became official today," said general manager Lou Lamoriello in a statement. "On behalf of the entire organization, I wish Ilya and his family all the best in their future endeavors." Kovalchuk played 11 seasons in the NHL, including the last four with New Jersey. He retires with career NHL totals of 417 goals and 399 assists for 816 points with 516 penalty minutes in 816 games. He added 11 goals and 16 assists in 32 career playoff games. "At first blush, (the news) is pretty shocking," said TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie. "And then you think about it for a moment and you say no, its not that shocking at all. We knew coming out of the lockout that there were all sorts of stories saying if he could have stayed in Russia with St. Petersburg he would have done that. He basically came back as a reluctant player after the lockout was over." Kovalchuk scored 89 goals and 112 assists for 201 points in 222 games, while adding eight goals and 11 assists in 23 playoff games with the Devils. He was traded to New Jersey by Atlanta on February 4, 2010. He was Atlantas first choice, and the first overall selection in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. "This decision was something I have thought about for a long time going back to the lockout and spending the year in Russia," said Kovalchuk in a team statement. "Though I decided to return this past season, Lou was aware of my desire to go back home and have my family thhere with me.dddddddddddd The most difficult thing for me is to leave the New Jersey Devils, a great organization that I have a lot of respect for, and our fans that have been great to me." He represented Russia at three Olympic Winter Games, nine World Championships, one World Junior Championship and the 2004 World Cup. "Its sad," said Washington Capitals coach Adam Oates, who spent two years as an assistant with the Devils. "Its sad for our league. Thats one of our good players, were going to miss him." Kovalchuk signed a 15-year, $100 million contract with the Devils in 2010 and leaves $77 million behind with his retirement. NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly told TSN 1050 Radio on Thursday afternoon that the cap advantage of Kovalchuks contract was roughly $4 million over the first three years of his contract (as his first two years were significantly below his average annual salary). Daly added that the Devils will have to pay it back in cap charges over the remaining 12 years of the contract (roughly $300,000 a year). "The short-term pain of losing a significant asset on the team is a long-term financial gain, even though there is a quarter of a million dollar cap hit over the next 12 years," explained McKenzie. "In the grand scheme of things, thats chump change." It was speculated but not confirmed that Kovalchuk will continue his playing career in the Kontinental Hockey League. Reports from Russian news agencies indicated he will officially sign with SKA Saint Petersburg on Friday. Kovalchuk played for SKA during the lockout and made it clear several months ago that he would stay there if he could. ' ' '

  • Northamptonshire 161 for 8 (Duckett 84, Wakely 53, Russell 3-20) beat Nottinghamshire 153 for 9 (Russell 39, Read 30, Crook 3-28) by eight runsScorecardA career-best T20 score from Ben Duckett powered Northants into the NatWest Blast T20 final for the third time in four years.Despite their well-documented financial troubles and the loss of Seekkuge Prasanna to international duty and Richard Gleeson to injury, Northants overcame a Nottinghamshire side that came into finals day having won their last nine T20 matches and containing nine international players and to win by eight runs.Northants looked unlikely victors when, 14 balls into the game, they had subsided to 15 for 3. And, had either of two inside edges from Ducketts bat hit the stumps rather than skidded to the fine leg boundary, it is quite possible this match could have ended as a contest almost before it had begun. But in partnership with captain Alex Wakely, Duckett helped add 132 in 82 balls showed once again why he is one of the highest-rated young batsmen in county cricket.Demonstrating an outrageous range of scoops, reverse pulls and drives, Duckett thrashed 84 from 47 balls - only two short of the record individual score on Finals Day - to take Northants to a competitive total. While some batsman might have been forgiven for consolidating after such a poor start, Duckett reasoned there was little sense in attempting to eke out a modest total on what looks to be an excellent surface and instead counter-attacked from the start.Stuart Broad was laced through mid-off and nudged off his hips for boundaries before Samit Patel was reverse-pulled for six. At one stage he took three boundaries in succession off Steven Mullaney - a reverse sweep, a scoop and a drive - while one Patel over was punished for 20, including a six crunched over long-on.Ducketts success does raise questions, though. Would he have won an opportunity to play in an eight-team city-based competition? As a 21-year-old developing at one of the smaller counties, would he have been given an opportunity ahead of more experienced players at more fashionable counties? He is the latest in an impressive array of talent to emerge from Northants in recent years. He recently scored 650 List A runs in the space of two weeks, including a double-century against Sri Lanka A, and was probably unfortunate to miss out on a place in the England ODI squad.Whether the club can keep him remains unclear. He is not out of contract but, like David Willey and Olly Stone before him, he is sure to attract interest from counties with deeper pockets. The value of the Wakley-Duckett partnership was highlighted once Duckett was dismissed, attempting to slog-sweep. Northants only managed one boundary in the last 25 balls of their innings, with nobody except Duckett and Wakely making more than 7.Andre Russell, despite struggling with a sore knee that forced him off the pitch at one stage, came to bowl his final over and claimed two wickets - Rory Kleinveldt and Steven Crook - to catches on the midwicket boundary and conceded just three runs in the process.Nottinghamshire were soon 15 for 3 in reply. After Michael Lumb edged to third man and Alex Hales was bowled by one that nipped back, Dan Christian was hurried by a short ball and top-edged to fine leg.But Russell plundered 20 - three fours, two of which were delicately played through or over point and one six, which was thrashed over midwicket - from one Azharullah over to put his side back on track. While Riki Wessels was caught on the point boundary, attempting to clear the field with a reverse sweep, Patel helped Russell add 45 in just 25 balls. But an outstanding piece of athleticism on the midwicket boundary - Rob Keogh throwing himself full length to cling on to an outstanding catch - ended Russells innings and, with Patel falling to a sharp return catch and Mullaney pulling to midwicket, it seemed Nottinghamshire would fall well short.Northants put down three chances - none of them easy - in seven balls, though, to allow Notts back into the game. Chris Read, the fortune batsman on two occasions, thrashed a quick 30 to leave Northants - struggling to bowl their overs within the permitted time and risking a six-run penalty as a result - a little rattled. But when Read was caught at long-on, Notts chances disappeared with him and left Northants into the final once more.We saved our worst performance of the season for the semi-final, Notts captain Dan Christian admitted.Nike NFL Jerseys China . -- Lou Brocks shoulder-to-shoulder collision with Bill Freehan during the 1968 World Series and Pete Roses bruising hit on Ray Fosse in the 1970 All-Star game could become relics of baseball history, like the dead-ball era. • ST. LOUIS -- A one-run loss to the Milwaukee Brewers left Kolten Wong and the St. Louis Cardinals frustrated.Ryan Braun hit a solo home run in the ninth inning, leading the Brewers to a 2-1 win Sunday and dropped the Cardinals back in the NL wild-card race. They are a half-game behind the Mets for the second wild-card slot.I think every one in this clubhouse is leaving here mad today, Wong said. We know this is what we play this game for. This is where the excitement comes and its either show up or go home.In Saturdays 5-1 win, the Cardinals scored five runs in the eighth to win the game. It didnt work out that way Sunday.St. Louis had tied it in the eighth when Matt Carpenter doubled and scored on Stephen Piscottys sacrifice fly off Tyler Thornburg (6-5).But Braun gave Milwaukee the lead in the ninth. Thornburg struck out three in the ninth to give the Cardinals the loss. Its always disappointing after getting it tied up, St. Louis manager Mike Matheny said. In these close games, you feel like you got a real shot and theyre always hard to swallow this time of year.Cardinals rookie Luke Weaver allowed three hits in six innings. He struck out eight with one walk.I learned a lot today, Weaver said. I went with the fastball and trusted it and mixed some off-speed pitches in early and it worked out. I got some ground balls and just attacked. The Brewers run off Weaver came in the first on singles by Scooter Gennett and Braun and a sacrifice fly from Chris Carter.Milwaukee had just four hits in the game, with Braun getting the only one after the fifth inning. We know how good this team is this year and every year, Braun said about St. Louis. They compete. They are so good fundamentally. When they get a runner in scoring position, you know theyll probably get him in. They did that there in the eighth but it wasnt like last night. We stopped them.TRAINERS ROOMCardinals: RHP Michael Wacha, who has missed 29 games with shoulder inflammation, is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Monday. He threw one Friday.ACTIVATEDThe Cardinals activated All-Star shortstop Aledmys Diaz from the disabled list. At the time he was injured, Diaz was hitting a team-leading .312 with 14 homers and 57 RBI in 96 games.ATTENDANCEThe Cardinals eclipsed the 3 million mark in attendance for the 13th consecutive year and joined the Los Angeles Dodgers as the second team to pass the figure this season. It is the 20th time overall St. Louis has passed the 3 million total.UP NEXTBrewers: Wiley Peralta (6-9) will face Cincinnatis Keyvius Sampson(0-1). The veteran B.C. kicker will suit up for his first game of the CFL season on Saturday as the Lions host the Edmonton Eskimos at B.C. Place Stadium. McCallum, the CFLs oldest player at age 43, missed the first three games because of a groin injury suffered in the preseason. But for the first time since 1994, McCallum will not handle all three kicking duties. He will focus on field goals while Hugh ONeill takes care of kick-offs and, for a rare time in a CFL game, the two kickers could share punting duties. "(The last sharing of duties) was early in my career," said McCallum, who played with the Saskatchewan Roughriders at the time. "So, for me, I didnt really know anything different." Although the 21-year veteran does know the difference now, he is willing to make the sacrifice as the Lions (2-1) try to beat the Eskimos (1-2) for the second time in a week in the conclusion of back-to-back contests. "Its a little bit different," he said of his current situation. "Youre a little bit more in the game when youre doing all three. But anything thats going to be able to help the club, Im willing to do." While injuries sometimes force a team to use two punters in a game, as has been the case with the Toronto Argonauts this season, its rare for a club to use a pair for strategic purposes. Such usage can affect lineup decisions elsewhere and the import and non-import ratio. McCallum handled all of the punting chores in practice during the week, and had not been told that he and ONeill, who handled all three duties in his absence, could alternate on punts. But Lions coach Mike Benevides said both kickers are ready to double up on punts. "(McCallum) got all the work during the week to get prepared," said Benevides after a walk-through Friday at B.C. Place Stadium. "But they know that they could get called in. "Its kind of like a relief pitcher. Ill call in the righty. Ill call in the lefty, depending on what we need in that situation. Depending on field position, you might see a different guy." (Both McCallum and ONeill kick with their right legs.) ONeill, 23, served as McCallums understudy for the past two seasons without seeing any playing time in the regular season or playoffs. Benevides said he wants to see more consistency from ONeill, an Edmonton native, who has had punts blocked due to bad snaps in each of the past two games. ONeills punts have averaged 31.2 yards in the past three games, while McCallum, the CFLs active all-time points leader with 2,733, has a career punting average of 41.5 yards. Punting is just one aspect of a special-teams game that the Lions are determined to improve. B.C. ranks last in the CFL in both average kick-off return yards (12.8) and average punt return yards (4.7) "We have to be a lot more consistent, a lot more explosivve, and were going to have to answer the bell (Saturday) that way," said Benevides.dddddddddddd As a result, veteran Tim Brown, the West Divisions special teams player of the year in 2012, will return to the lineup after sitting out the past two games. Rookie Korey Williams had ousted him from his spot, but struggled and will watch the game from the stands. "(Brown) is going to bring a lot of things to the table (Saturday)," said Benevides. "Tim is a north-south guy. Tim has a good feel for this opponent and this enemy, so I know that he understands where he needs to be." Brown, a constantly smiling, happy-go-lucky type, has been in a different place personally this season. He has struggled to contain his emotions due to the lack of playing time and the death of his mother Mary to cervical cancer in the spring. Never one to complain, and reluctantly talking about his troubles while graciously answering a couple of reporters questions, Brown hopes a strong performance against the Eskimos will help him deal with his sadness. "It definitely a test of my Christian faith," said Brown of his limited playing time. "Its definitely a test of my emotions. They want to get the best of me. Its just a sense of: I want to play." The Eskimos have taken note of B.C.s changes on special teams. Edmonton coach Kavis Reed said he cant recall a game when a team used two punters on purpose. "They have two very capable guys," said Reed. "Were definitely aware of the fact that Paul McCallum will be back on the roster. Hes arguably one of the best directionally and also (for) distance. "Hes very cagey with the ball in his hands. So we have to make sure we account for the ball being kicked. So it will be a challenge for us, and its probably a luxury to have that ability to (deploy two kickers)." Reed said the Edmonton defence must also be wary of Brown, who is in his third season with the Lions. Brown has run three punts back for touchdowns during a CFL career spent exclusively with B.C., but has yet to reach the end zone on a kick-off. The Eskimos field boss said Brown, who doubles as a backup tailback, also poses a threat on regular downs. "Hes a weapon," said Reed. "Hes not only a weapon as a returner, but as an offensive player as well. When the ball is in his hands, good things tend to happen for them." Meanwhile, B.C. slotback Shawn Gore will also return to the B.C. lineup after sitting out last weekends game in Edmonton with a concussion. Gore was injured against Toronto two weeks ago. The forced time off gave him a greater appreciation for the game. "Its hard to watch (on TV)," said Gore. "You dont realize how much you miss it until its gone." Notes: Slotback Fred Stamps and defensive end Marcus Howard will return to Eskimos lineup after missing last weekends game against B.C. with undisclosed injuries. ' ' '

  • Duke big man Harry Giles, the top-ranked player in the freshman class, made his college debut Monday night against Tennessee State, entering the game with 11:27 left in the first half.Giles finished with no points, no rebounds and 0-for-1 shooting in four first-half minutes, but his return gave the Blue Devils the full complement of star freshmen who made the team No. 1 in preseason polls.First game, that was just shaking the rust off and getting the kinks out, Giles said. I think each day, each game, each practice, Ill get better. The 6-foot-10 Giles, who dealt with several knee injuries in high school, missed the teams first 11 games of the season after undergoing a procedure in October. Duke was without two other heralded freshmen -- Jayson Tatum (ESPN No. 3) and Marques Bolden (No. 16) -- for the first eight games because of foot injuries.Duke announced in early October that Giles would miss about six weeks after arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.Giles missed his entire sophomore season in high school after he suffered a torn ACL, MCL and meniscus in his left knee while playing for the U.S. in international competition. He returned for his junior season and reclaimed the top spot in the rankings but suffered a torn ACL in his right knee less than two minutes into his senior season and missed the remainder of the season.Dukes 65-55 win over Tennessee State was Giles first game in more than 13 months. It was also the first time that Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski got a look at the team that nearly everyone ranked No. 1 in the preseason. The Blue Devils are 10-1, with the lone loss coming on a last-second shot by Kansas Frank Mason III at Madison Square Garden.Krzyzewski said after a win over Florida in New York on Dec. 6 that his hope was to play Giles in this weeks nonconference games against Tennessee State and Elon prior to ACC play beginning Dec. 31 at Virginia Tech. Giles was able to go through multiple practices over the weekend and should see limited minutes against Elon. With the freshmen out of the lineup early and Grayson Allen battling foot injuries, sophomore Luke Kennard and senior Amile Jefferson have carried much of the load. Kennard leads the team with 20 points per game, and Jefferson is averaging 15.1 points and 10.5 rebounds. Tatum is averaging 15 points and seven rebounds in his three games since returning, while Bolden has struggled and is still working his way back into shape.Information from the Associated Press was used in this report.Nike Air Max Zero Canada . -- Jimmy Walkers first PGA Tour trophy came with a special gift tucked inside. • DALLAS -- The Dallas Mavericks have made their biggest free agent play in a busy off-season, adding shooting guard Monta Ellis to a backcourt thats still crowded even after a couple of setbacks. Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said in an email Saturday that Ellis has agreed to a contract. It is reportedly a three-year deal valued between $25 million and $30 million. The deal with Ellis was reached after first-round pick Shane Larkin broke his right ankle in summer league practice Friday. Dallas also reportedly is backing out of a three-year, $9 million deal with Devin Harris because of a toe injury. Ellis figures to start alongside point guard Jose Calderon, another free agent who signed a four-year, $29 million deal. The 27-year-old Ellis averaged 19.2 points with Milwaukee last season but had the lowest 3-point shooting percentage among eligible players at 28.7 per cent. Calderon had the highest at 46.1 per cent. Ellis began his career with Golden State and was on the team that shocked the 67-win Mavericks in the first round of the 2007 playoffs. He started five of the six games against Dallas but came off the bench in all five games of a second-round loss to Utah. Ellis didnt return to the playoffs until last season with the Bucks, who were swept by Miami in the first round. The Warriors traded him to Milwaukee late in the 2011-12 season, and he declined an $11 million option to return to the Bucks. The Mavericks still have a glaring need at centre after Dwight Howard chose Houston and Andrew Bynum went to Cleveland. Dallas figures to sign a centre from a dwindling list of alternatives topped by Samuel Dalembert. Even without Larkin and Harris, who started his career in Dallas as a No. 5 pick nine years ago, the Mavericks will open camp with at least five newcomers at guard after deciding they werent happy with the one-year experiment of Darren Collison and O.J. Mayo last season. The Mavericks added another free agent in Gal Mekel, the second Israeli-born player in the NBA. He played professionally in his home country after a two-season stint at Wichita State that ended in 2008. Dallas took two guards in last months draft. The Mavericks traded down twice and ended up with Larkin, the son of Hall of Fame shortstop Barry Larkin, at No. 18. In another trade for the 43rd pick, they got Ricky Ledo, who sat out his only season at Providence for academic reasons.Fake Jordan . This should be celebrated because it will not always be this way. Wholesale NFL Jerseys China .C. -- Glenn Howard needed an extra end to move into the Masters Grand Slam of Curling final.MADISON, Wis. -- Fourteen months ago, T.J. Watt reported to Wisconsins fall camp without any real grasp of how to play the position he was assigned. He was a talented, athletic project who had been moved from tight end to outside linebacker, and the entry-level instruction he received seemed to barrel toward him at warp speed. This is how you stand. This is how you load your weight on the proper foot. This is where your hands go. Heres how to maintain pad level and gain leverage on a lineman. We started at ground zero, Badgers outside linebackers coach Tim Tibesar recalled. At that time, even though he was in his third fall at Wisconsin, it was kind of like having a freshman come in. Youre trying to teach him for the first time how to play outside backer in our system. Those who witnessed Watts performance last Saturday against Michigan State might find it difficult to believe he hasnt spent a lifetime mastering the skills required of an outside linebacker. During Wisconsins 30-6 romp of Michigan State, Watt recorded a career-high 3.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. He finished with six tackles, two quarterback hurries and a pass breakup. For his efforts, he was named the Walter Camp Football Foundation National Defensive Player of the Week, becoming the first Badgers player to earn the honor since 2004. He also claimed Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors.Watt could again be a major factor when No. 8 Wisconsin visits No. 4 Michigan on Saturday (3:30 p.m. ET, ABC). Through four games this season, he leads the Big Ten with 4.5 sacks and ranks tied for seventh nationally in that category.Given where Watt started, thats pretty amazing, right?I think itd be amazing if it was anyone but T.J., Badgers linebacker Jack Cichy said. You see it with his brothers. He comes from a football family, and hes a football player. At first, there was a learning curve, but hes blown that out of the water. Hes matured drastically from the time he first came on the defensive side of the ball. And hes just really exponentially getting better every week. The Watt name is one that carries significant weight in the football world, as many likely already know. T.J., a 6-foot-5, 244-pound redshirt junior, is the youngest of three brothers, and the other two excelled at Wisconsin before becoming NFL draft picks. Defensive end J.J. Watt was a first-round draft pick of the Houston Texans in 2011 and has earned three NFL Defensive Player of the Year awards. Fullback Derek Watt was a sixth-round draft choice of the San Diego Chargers this spring.Of course, none of their successes guaranteed anything for T.J., who has had to earn his own keep. He did not play in each of his first two seasons at Wisconsin after suffering debilitating knee injuries. By the time Badgers coach Paul Chryst approached Watt during a team meeting about a position switch in July 2015, he hadnt been on a football field in three falls and was desperate to play.Initially, Watt wasnt sure whether to take the defensive plunge. But J.J. partly inspired T.J.s decision-making. He encouraged T.J. by telling him he possessed the skill set to be a linebacker. That night, T.ddddddddddddJ. pulled up YouTube videos of some of the NFLs best pass-rushers, including plays from his brother, Von Miller and Lawrence Taylor. The next day, he told Chryst he was ready.I just fell in love with the mentality, T.J. Watt said. The biggest selling point, Watt noted, was the potential to make an impact on every defensive snap. As a tight end, he was forced to wait for a play call directed toward his side, and even then, there wasnt any assurance the ball would be thrown at him. At outside linebacker, Watts stamina and natural instincts allow him to tackle ball carriers anywhere on the field.Hes an unbelievable worker, and hes smart, Chryst said. I think he loves the game. How do you put a timetable on that development? I appreciate it, and its been fun to see him grow and develop. I still think he could be an unbelievably good tight end, too.Last year, Wisconsins coaching staff opted to give Watt a small early-season role as a third-down pass-rusher. By the end of the season, however, he had progressed so much that he was routinely in the game on first- and second-down plays. Coaches believed in him enough that they named Watt a starting outside linebacker to open spring ball, replacing Big Ten Linebacker of the Year Joe Schobert, who is now with the Cleveland Browns. That decision allowed Wisconsin to move Cichy to inside linebacker and strengthen the entire group. Watt and senior Vince Biegel quickly formed a frightening pass-rushing duo on a unit that ranks 12th nationally in total defense. Biegel, however, underwent surgery Thursday night to have a screw inserted into a cracked foot, will miss the Michigan game and could be out two to four weeks, his father told ESPN.com. The injury likely will make Watts presence even more valuable on Saturday.Hes a big, physical guy and hes a hard-working guy, Biegel said earlier in the week of Watt. Offseason, you guys dont see it, but in the weight room, in spring practices, in the grind season, hes right at the top. Thats what you want. Thats why you come to Wisconsin. You want to be able to work out and be teammates with guys like that.Watt said one of his biggest challenges remained understanding how quickly decisions must be made while pass rushing. He is still learning many of the same concepts taught to him 14 months ago, including slowing his mind down and focusing on pad level and leverage. Occasionally, he will send his oldest brother videos of a pass rush and wait for critiques from J.J. on hand placement and footwork.?Sometimes, hes his own toughest critic. He watched film of his performance against Michigan State and noticed several plays he didnt make. Its definitely encouraging to know that there were a lot of plays left out there, Watt said. But at the same time, its also a little bit like, Dang it, I couldve had a couple more tackles. I think defensively as a whole, were still improving, were still scratching the surface and the skys the limit. The same can certainly be said of Watt. ' ' '

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio -- The Cleveland Cavaliers could have their backup point guard position shored up as coach Tyronn Lue expects Iman Shumpert and Kay Felder to play Friday after both experienced concussion-like symptoms this week.Felder was placed in the leagues concussion protocol after taking an errant Chris Andersen elbow to the head in practice last week and is now fully cleared. Roman Josi had a goal and an assist to lead the Predators to a 4-1 victory over the Dallas Stars on Monday night.R Ashwin had already uprooted New Zealands top order on day four; and on the final day he returned to complete what he had begun, by claiming three-more wickets, that helped India complete a comfortable 197-run win in the first Test in Kanpur on Monday. At the start of the final day, India needed six wickets to complete a historic win in their 500th Test, but Luke Ronchi and Mitchell Santner stubbornly stood in their way. The New Zealand duo refused to hand over the early advantage and extended their overnight partnership to 102.Ronchi successfully negotiated Indias spinners on a slow fifth-day pitch, but he lost his concentration in the first over after the drinks break and fell - to a Ravindra Jadeja delivery - for a 120-ball 80. Santner and BJ Watling cautiously negotiated ten overs before Watling was undone by a Mohammad Shami delivery that reverse swung and trapped him lbw. Shami, an over later, uprooted Mark Craigs middle stump. While wickets fell at one end, Santner stood tall at the other. The left hander hit seven fours and two sixes in his 179-ball 71 before Ashwin squared him up, with a delivery that turned and bounced from outside leg stump, and induced an edge to silly point.Ashwin ran through the tail without much fuss and dismissed Ish Sodhi and Neil Warner in quuick succession to end with innings figures of 6 for 132 and match figures of 10 for 225 in 66.dddddddddddd overs. Its a memorable Test, from the second day onwards when New Zealand were batting really well we and Ashwin were chatting how we had to show good resilience to win it. Credit to them, the reason the match went on to the final day was because of the guts they showed, Virat Kohli, Indias captain, said.Williamson said that, despite the loss, there were a number of positives that his side would take home from the first Test. There were a lot of positives throughout the match, hopefully a few lessons as well. India outplayed us though and if we look back there was a two session period where the game slipped away from us, Williamson said.It would have been nice to get closer to the first innings total, and to start off restricting India to 300 on a good batting wicket was good work, (Ronchi and Santner) were both fantastic, particularly today with the ball spinning sharply. The way Santner applied himself with bat and ball and the way Ronchi played coming back into the team was fantastic. Its about recovery for us [in the break, fitness wise]. ' ' '

NEW YORK -- New York Mets right-hander Bartolo Colon needs a win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday night in order to become only the second active pitcher to beat all 30 major league clubs. The Mets just need a win against anyone.Colon will pursue a neat bit of history -- and attempt to reverse the fortunes of the sinking Mets -- when he takes the mound in the middle game of a three-game series against the Diamondbacks at Citi Field. Arizona won Tuesdays opener, 5-3.The 43-year-old Colon, who earned the victory in his most recent start last Thursday by allowing one run over 6 2/3 innings as the Mets beat the New York Yankees 4-1, is looking to become the 17th player to beat all 30 teams. He has made just two career starts against the Diamondbacks, who began play in 1998 -- Colons second season in the majors. The only other active pitcher with wins against all 30 major league clubs is Chicago Cubs right-hander John Lackey, who joined the fraternity when he earned the victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on April 19.The Mets would be thrilled if Colon earned the milestone win, because it would give them yet another shot at their own, less impressive achievement: Winning two straight games for the first time in more than a month.New York (57-55) has not won consecutive games since July 7-8. The Mets, who are 2 1/2 games behind the Miami Marlins in the race for the National Leagues second wild card, are 10-17 since their last winning streak. Its kind of like its been one step forward and two steps back for us, Mets second baseman Neil Walker said. Were playing hard. This is a hard time of the year. This is a grind-it-out (time) of year. The Diamondbacks (46-66) long ago stepped out of the playoff race, but manager Chip Hale is hopeful his team can play spoiler this week during a six-game road trip to New York and Boston, where Arizona begins a three-game series against the Red Sox at Fenway Park on Friday night. The win on Tuesday was the third in the last four games for the Diamondbacks, who took two of three form the Milwaukee Brewers at Chase Field in a series that ended Sunday. These guys are ready to go, Hale said. Its fun coming to these atmospheres. Lot of fans, gets guys pumped up. So hopefully we respond and we keep playing like we did (over the) weekend and win the series.Diamondbacks left-hander Robbie Ray is scheduled to oppose Colon. Ray has lost his last three starts despite striking out 30 and walking just five over 16 2/3 innings in that span. He did not factor into the decision in his lone previous start against the Mets on June 4, 2015, when he tossed five shutout innings in Arizonas 6-2 defeat.Fake Soccer Jerseys . Some you get in and you stand in them. This one is basically like an inflatable one of the paddle pools you would put your kids in when its hot outside in the summer. Its just filled with water, then the ice to cool it down. While it may have looked like something his baby daughter Sophia would have been more at home in, she was tucked up at their house in Oxshott, Surrey. It was more than two and a half hours before Murray came to press around 9 p.m., meaning he will stay at a nearby hotel before practising tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 p.m.The point in going home to see my family and see my daughter ... Shes been sleeping about four hours ago. Not much to go back for, Murray said.At least he got a massage from his physio afterward to cap off his postmatch routine. He will have needed it -- after a grueling 86 matches on tour with 77 wins, he has played his two longest three-set matches of the season here this week. First he went 3 hours, 20 minutes against Kei Nishikori Wednesday, then 3 hours, 38 minutes against Raonic. The 29-year-old mouthed the words big heart toward his team when he finally took his third match point Saturday.I fought really hard today, I fought very hard this week. I have also the last few months, too, he said.It would have been easy today when I was behind to have gone away a little bit, but I didnt. Even after serving for the match twice, having a bunch of match points in the tiebreak, still stayed tough, chased balls down, fought as best as I could. It was enough to get me the win. That is the mentality that has propelled Murray to the top oof the world rankings.dddddddddddd He became the first Briton to do so last Monday, when he ended Novak Djokovics 122-week reign. This was just another moment the Scot came up big in a season full of those moments.Murray has barely put a foot wrong this season. The only real blots on his copy book are the five-set September defeats to Nishikori in the US Open quarterfinals and Juan Martin del Potro in the Davis Cup semifinals. His body had been in dire need of a rest at that point, though, after a grueling summer schedule that saw him win a third major title at Wimbledon as well as retain his Olympic gold medal in Rio, on his way to setting a then-career best win streak of 22 matches. He has now beaten that run with his 23rd straight win coming against Raonic Saturday. This particular streak has taken in four straight titles and propelled him to No. 1, seven years and 82 days since he first reached No. 2.Wednesdays win over Nishikori did create a surprising stat, though -- it was Murrays first match against a top-five player since his Roland Garros defeat to Djokovic in June.Ive beat three guys in the top five in the world, which some people were not happy that I hadnt won against the top-five players, Murray said of a productive week in London. Then it will be the top two players, then top one. Theres always something thats wrong with what youre doing. In terms of winning against Novak or beating Novak, you can only beat the players that are in front of you. I cant do any more than that. Ive done that this week. The guys ahead of me have had that, as well. Im sure with Novak, its been like, Rogers injured or Rafas injured. You can only beat who youre playing against. Ive done that the last few months. On Sunday, an entire season of tennis boils down to one three-set match with the No. 1 ranking on the line. Murray will need one last big push. ' ' '

ASHBURN, Va. -- The Washington Redskins received the official news Monday that they feared was coming: Safety DeAngelo Hall tore the ACL in his right knee and will miss the remainder of the season.Hall said Sunday night that doctors told him it likely was his ACL. A team source and Halls agent Alvin Keels confirmed the news?to ESPN.Hes coming along, playing better and better at safety, so its pretty significant, Redskins coach Jay Gruden said Monday. From a player perspective, Wills right there with him, but from a leadership standpoint, D-Hall has done a lot for this organization, a lot for this team. Hes going to be missed.Hall hurt his knee in the second quarter of Sundays 29-27 win over the New York Giants when he was making a tackle attempt on receiver Odell Beckham Jr. The Redskins have another former corner,?Will Blackmon, and Duke Ihenacho as backup safeties. For Hall, its the third straight injury-shortened season. He played in only three games in 2014 thanks to an Achilles tear and was limited to 11 games last season as he recovered from that injury and also dealt with a knee issue. He turns 33 in November, which might have made Sundays game his last with Washington.Hes got to really take a look at it and see where he is once he does the rehab, if he wants to try it again, Gruden said. I havent talked to him about that. We just want him to get well first. Thats the No. 1 priority right now.On Saturday night, Hall organized a team meeting.I didnt feel guys were out there having fun, Hall said. He said one of his assistant captains, Tiger Woods, felt the same way. Both had to wait a while.Love and Woods were scheduled to play the PGA Tours season-opening event at the Safeway Open, and both withdrew. One got more attention than the other.Woods still hasnt played since August 2015. He is due to return in two weeks at his Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas. Love waited only a few weeks before he returned at Las Vegas and tied for 41st, not a bad effort for a 52-year-old who had hip surgery in June. And then he pulled out of Mexico to make sure he was rested for the RSM Classic at Sea Island, where he is tournament host of the final event of the year.Tiger and I had the same thing happen to us, Love said. We had some momentum, and then we got so wrapped up a couple weeks in the Ryder Cup, and then we got hit by a hurricane that we didnt really get the practice schedule we were quite planning the week after the Ryder Cup.Im getting better every week, so hopefully by January, Ill be 100 percent. As for Woods?Thats still to be determined.2016 FINALE: The RSM Classic sure feels like the end. There wont be another PGA Tour event until the Tournament of Champions at Kapalua the first week of January, giving players six weeks off if they want it.On the other hand, this is only the sixth week of the new season. A tour official mentioned to defending champion Kevin Kisner that at this time a year ago, he was leading the FedEx Cup after the fall portion of the season and asked what was different.Im not leading, Kisner said. Ive only played twice. Didnt play well either place, really.THE BUSY BODIES: Peter Malnati and Spencer Levin have earned a dubious distinction in the fall portionn of the tour schedule.ddddddddddddeither of them has missed a tournament.Scott Piercy was part of that group, too, but he decided to take this week off. The difference is that Piercy has converted the full schedule into a great start to his season. He already has three top 10s and is No. 7 in the FedEx Cup.Malnati and Levin have missed two cuts and have yet to crack the top 30.THE FIELD: Matt Kuchar is the highest-ranked player at Sea Island at No. 20 in the world, and it helps that he leaves here. The only PGA Tour winner in this new season at the RSM Classic is Cody Gribble, who won in Mississippi opposite the World Golf Championship in China.Love is a big attraction, not only for his deep roots at Sea Island but as the tournament host who recently was selected for the Hall of Fame. Two other Hall-of-Famers are in the field, Vijay Singh and Ernie Els.LAST CHANCE: Although the season is still young, this is the last chance for players to qualify for the winners-only Tournament of Champions that starts the new year at Kapalua on Maui.No one feels like hes due more than Kevin Chappell. But if he wins, he wont be going to paradise. Can I ask for a rain check? Chappell said. His wife, Elizabeth, is expecting their second child in January. Chappell plans to stay home for the month of January. Even so, he would love to get that first PGA Tour victory after a season in which he finished runner-up three times -- twice to Jason Day, once to Rory McIlroy.THE COURSES: Love received the tours permission last year to use two courses at Sea Island Golf Club -- Seaside all four rounds, and Plantation the opening two rounds. That allows for a 156-man field, the largest of the fall. Two courses are required because it gets dark early this time of the year. ' ' '

  • BERKELEY, Calif. -- Stanfords midseason slump is becoming a distant memory now that Christian McCaffrey is healthy once again and the Cardinal are finishing the season in typical fashion with another Big Game win.McCaffreys 90-yard touchdown run highlighted a record-setting 284-yard rushing performance that led Stanford to its seventh straight win in the rivalry game, 45-31 over California on Saturday. After struggling to move the ball at all during a stretch of three losses in four games back in October when McCaffrey was slowed by an undisclosed injury, the Cardinal (8-3, 6-3 Pac-12) have hit their stride late in the season.Weve definitely had some ups and downs, McCaffrey said. To see where we are now gives us a lot of hope going into each week knowing that we can play and get into a rhythm and really hurt some people in the run game.McCaffrey broke his own single-game rushing record at Stanford of 243 yards and the Big Game record of 226 yards set by Cals Joe Igber in 2002 to help the Cardinal (8-3, 6-3 Pac-12) keep the coveted Axe with yet another win over their rival.Stanford matched the longest win streak in the rivalry that dates back to 1892. The Cardinal also won seven straight against Cal (4-7, 2-6) from 1995-2001.Any time you win the Big Game, its a fun one, not only for this team but for this school, quarterback Keller Chryst saidDavis Webb threw for 393 yards and two touchdowns and Tre Watson ran for two scores for the Golden Bears, who are assured of a fifth losing season in the past six years and will miss out on a bowl bid unless there are not enough six-win teams to fill all the slots. Our margin of error is very slim, Webb said. The games we win we dont really mess up, and the games we lose we mess up. Its not that hard. We just have to get better. The game started well for Cal, which stopped Stanford on the opening drive and then scored on its first offensive play on a 70-yard pass from Webb to Chad Hansen.Stanford tied the game two plays later on a 16-yard run by Chryst and took control early in the third quarter when McCaffrey burst through the middle for his long touchdown run that was one of his three scoring runs in the game. That was the big momentum thing at that point, Cal coach Sonny Dykes said. Stanford had the momentum and we just never seemed to be able to get it back.THE TAKEAWAYStanford: The biggest reasons for Stanfords turnaround have been a healthy McCaffrey, who has rushed for 787 yards and scored 10 TDs in a four-game winning streak, and Chryst. After struggling early on as Ryan Burns replacement, Chryst has been much improved of late. He threw for 198 yards and two TDs against Cal, giving him 456 yards passing and five touchdowns the past two weeks.California: After a promising start to the season with two wins over ranked teams, the Bears are headed for another losing campaign because of the same problems that have plagued the program ever since Dykes took over as coach in 2013. The defense has struggled to stop anyone, allowing 51.3 points per game while losing five of the past six contests. The run defense, which came into the game ranked second to last in FBS allowing 283.4 yards per game, was even worse against McCaffrey and the Cardinal. Stanford finished with 357 yards.LONG RUNSMcCaffrey has scored on long runs the past two weeks, following up his 61-yarder at Oregon with the 90-yarder this week as Stanford has taken advantage of defenses stacking the box to stop the run.If we can secure those guys and get him through the first level, hes got a clear path to the end zone, Coach David Shaw said. Strike up the band and bring on the PAT.BIG RECEIVERCals 310-pound fullback Malik McMorris got involved in the passing game for the first time. He caught a short pass and rumbled for a 20-yard gain to set up one TD and added a 6-yard catch later in the game.UP NEXTStanford: Host Rice on Saturday to finish the regular season.California: Host UCLA on Saturday to finish the regular season.---More AP college football: www.collegefootball.ap.org and https://twitter.com/AP-Top25Soccer Jerseys China . • NEW YORK -- On a dreary, rainy Manhattan night, a huge, happy roar arose in a crowd of chess fans from around the world.Two-time world chess champion, Magnus Carlsen, had just reached for a final, victorious move on Wednesday that crowned him a champ for the third time.He had beaten Russian grandmaster Sergey Karjakin with bold, aggressive moves in a series of tie-breakers capping three weeks of the World Chess Championship that until Wednesday was tied after 12 games. The setting was in a refurbished New York City building overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge that was once the citys fish market. On this night, it became a glittering gathering of hundreds of fans -- adults and children -- from Norway, Russia, the United States and elsewhere. They were riveted as the two grandmasters leaned over in the tense game, barely moving, in total silence and deep in thought. The fans paid $100 to enter, feasting on snacks and drinks as they kept their eyes glued to flat-screens that beamed close-ups of the chessboard in an inner chamber. A panel of soundproof glass shielded the players from onlookers, who could see in but whom the players could not see.Hungarian grandmaster Judit Polgar said the four lightning-quick games played on Wednesday were like Russian roulette.Today, the faster games are a great show even for people who dont know the game, said Polgar, considered the greatest female player ever.On Wednesday, the required mental strategies also played out on chessboards scattered around the spectator lounge. People hovered over them, trying out various combinations of pieces, mirroring the masters.Magnus is my hero because he takes risks, hes really exciting, said Pippa Millstone, a Manhattan 9-year-old who came to watch the tournament for her fourth time. The game is pretty even now, but I feel like Magnus is going to start attacking really soon, she said in the middle of the third of four so-called rapid games, each about a half hour long each, played as tie-breakers on Wednesday.Carlsen and Karjakin reached a draw in two, and the Norwegian won two for the championship. At crucial moments, spectators hushed, waiting to see what the next move would be. At times, one whispered, no, no when Karjakins choice seemed halting, or on the defensive.Even the winner missed a chance in one game, drawing groans and a few happy shrieks, depending on loyalties.Organizers said about 6 million people around the world followed the tie-breaking games, sort of like sudden death play in football. Most fans were in homes and clubs across the globe. Some spent $15 for a Pay-Per-View live transmission, others to watch via high-tech goggles in 3D virtual reality or by tracking moves on various free websites. The prize was $1.1 million divided between the two players, with the winner getting 60 percent. The New York championship did not escape the shadow of East-West rivalry reaching back to the Cold War days when American Bobby Fischer beat Russian Boris Spassky in 1972.This time, a key figure in chess was absent in New York: Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, a Russian businessman and longtime president of the governing World Chess Federation who was accused by the U.S. government of collaborating with the Syrian regime.Fake Nike Shoes . -- There were so many positives from the Orlando Magics first victory of the season that it was hard for coach Jacque Vaughn to stop praising his players. RIO DE JANEIRO -- Standing atop the medal podium for the 23rd time, Michael Phelps teared up, bit his lip and gave a little nod. This was how he really wanted to go out.On top of his game in the water.Totally content away from the pool.It turned out pretty cool, Phelps said, another gold medal around his neck. Its just a perfect way to finish.Phelps put the United States ahead to stay on the butterfly leg of the 4x100-meter medley relay, giving the most decorated athlete in Olympic history his 23rd career gold medal Saturday night. If that was the end, and Phelps insists it is, the numbers are simply astonishing. No other Olympian has more than nine gold medals. With 28 medals in all, hes 10 clear of anyone else. Its not even once in a generation, said his coach, Bob Bowman. It might be once in 10 generations that someone like Michael Phelps comes along. As Nathan Adrian touched the wall to finish off the victory, Phelps gathered the other relay swimmers, Ryan Murphy and Cody Miller, in his arms. One night after his only setback of the games, an upset loss to Joseph Schooling in the 100 fly, Phelps was back on top.At age 31, he leaves Rio with five golds and a silver.I wouldnt change anything, he said. This is the best place Ive ever been in my life.In the stands, his fiancee, Nicole Johnson, bounced along to the music with their son, 3-month-old Boomer, cradled in her arms.Phelps is eager to spend a lot more time with them. He plans to marry Johnson after the Olympics and said he wants to watch his son grow, maybe even dole out a swimming lesson or two.And what if Boomer wants to take all those medals to show-and-tell someday?I might let him take one, Phelps said with a grin.Maybe a bronze, Bowman chimed in.Most of the U.S. swim team was in the stands to watch Phelps finale, including the biggest female star at the pool, Katie Ledecky. The 19-year-old Ledecky joked that she was proud to be part of Phelps final Olympics -- twice. He initially retired after the 2012 London Olympics, only to decide about a year later to return. The comeback endured a huge setback with his second drunken-driving arrest in 2014, which led to Phelps being banned from the world championships last year. But it also sparked a turnaround in his personal life. He entered six weeks of inpatient therapy, where he got in touch with some of the issues that seemed to lead him astray. He quit drinking, reconnected with his estranged father, got engaged, moved to Arizona along with Bowman, and became a father for the first time.Phelps sounds much more adamant when he says his swimming career really is over. These games really showed his growth, teammate Anthony Ervin said. That human spirit, that capacity to heal. I think it showed in his swimming, it showed in his demeanor, and it certainly showed in his leadership on the team.Phelps was elected a team captain for the first time in his fifth Olympics and truly seemed to enjoy being around his fellow swimmers. He was still the same ruthless competitor, but he was also willing to join in when some of his younger teammates made a carpool karaoke video at their final training camp in Atlanta.Took a starring role, in fact.Being Michael requires such isolation, Ervin said. Other people respect that. They give him that space because he is the greatest. But this time around he started reaching out, reaching out to other people, bringing them closer, letting that gap be bridged. That was special. On a victory stroll around the pool, Phelps and his teammates grabbed a sign that said, Thank You Rio.No matter what country you swim for, youre indebted to Michael Phelps for bringing a lot of exposure to the sport and making it a little more mainstream, Murphy said. If this is the end that was a great way to cap off an incredible career.Murphy, who won two backstroke golds in Rio, put the Americans out front with a world-record split -- it counts since he was leading off -- before Britain surged ahead on the breaststroke with its own world-record holder, Adam Peaty.Phelps dove into the pool in second place. He wouldnt be for long.On the return lap, Phelps powered through the water with his windmill of a stroke, surging ahead of James Guy to pass off a lead to the anchor Adrian. It wasnt in doubt after that. Adrian pulled away on the freestyle to win in an Olympic-record time of 3 minutes, 27.95 seconds. Britain held on for silver, with Australia nabbing bronze. The victory came just minutes after the womens medley relay gave the United States its 1,000th Olympic gold medal at the Summer Games.A thousandth gold for team USA, said Simone Manuel, who swam the anchor leg for her second gold of the games and second medal of the night. Its a nice number.Kathleen Baker, Lilly King and Dana Vollmer joined Manuel in the historic victory, which came with a time of 3:53.13. Australia earned silver, while Denmark took bronze.Earlier in the night, Manuel took silver in the 50 free. She already became the first African-American woman to win an Olympic swimming title with her win in the 100 free.Connor Jaeger gave the U.S. another silver in the 1,500 free, leaving the American with 33 swimming medals in Rio -- matching the highest total since they captured 34 against a depleted field at the boycotted Los Angeles Games of 1984.The U.S. also won 33 medals at Sydney in 2000.The final two individual golds of the games went to Pernille Blume of Denmark in the 50 free, her countrys first swimming victory since 1948, and Italys Gregorio Paltrinieri in the grueling 1,500 free. The night, though, belonged to Phelps, who walked out of the arena for the final time carrying an American flag handed to him by his mother from her front-row seat, right next to Johnson and little Boomer. With a gold medal around his neck. The only way imaginable.---Follow Paul Newberry on Twitter at www.twitter.com/pnewberry1963 . Air Max 97 Fake For Sale . -- Golden State Warriors coach Mark Jackson asked his players a simple question during Fridays morning shootaround: How many of them had ever been on a team 14 games over .This is the story of two retirements, one coming at the end of a rich, deeply satisfying career, the other not so much.Unusual Heat, 26, has been pensioned, ending a 19-year stallion career that never ceased to amaze. Year after year, the Unusual Heats would come rolling down the line, winning races large and small in such numbers as to impress even the most casual students of the game.Do not look for the name of Unusual Heat to be whispered in the mists of Kentuckys breeding lore, however. Although he was bred in the bluegrass, Unusual Heat did his stallion deeds in California, and Californias bloodstock history is viewed more with curious condescension than respect, despite the accomplishments of Hall of Famers and champions like Swaps, Tiznow, Native Diver, Tiznow, Ancient Title, Best Pal, and Bertrando.Scores of Unusual Heats have run riot through the regional stakes races offered by a generous California program. But more than that, his best horses were very good wherever they ran. Acclamation was the Eclipse Award champion older male of 2011. The Usual Q. T. was a Grade 1 winner who almost took a Breeders Cup Mile. Tucked Away, Lethal Heat, Unusual Suspect, Burns, Gervinho, Bettys Bambino, Golden Doc A, Pretty Unusual, Lennyfromalibu -- none of them needed the shelter of a California-bred stakes race to bring home a major prize.Unusual Heat is a son of Nureyev who was first trained in Ireland by Dermot Weld and then migrated to California, where he joined the Richard Mandella stable. Barry Abrams claimed him as a 6-year-old for $80,000 for a partnership that included the trainer, his brother David Abrams, and breeder Madeline Auerbach. Not long after that, Unusual Heat was retired with a bowed tendon.I claimed him hoping to get a few races out of him and then to be a stallion, Barry Abrams said. I didnt know much about it then, but I did know that Nureyev was a great stallion.Unusual Heats first foals hit the ground in 1999.The biggest thing he gave them was longevity, Abrams said. Theyd win first time out as 2-year-olds and still be around four, five, six years later. And the more they ran, the better they got. They may have been running as a $20,000 maiden as a 3-year-old, then as a 4-year-old, theyd be an allowance or a stakes horse.Abrams was right. A scan of Unusual Heats progeny reveals hard knockers like Tropical Heat (86 starts), Steamy Story (78 starts), Raise the Heat (74 starts), and at least 30 others with 40 or more starts.Exaggerator, a 3-year-old son of Curlin, made 15 starts. He also earned $3.5 million, which makes him a very efficientt moneymaking machine, and by some measures, that is the point of the exercise.ddddddddddddNow he has been retired, happy and healthy, to WinStar Farm in Kentucky to begin a stallion career next year before hes even a fully matured Thoroughbred.Racing fans are rightfully miffed at yet another example of the breeding tail wagging the racing dog. Exaggerators quality as a Thoroughbred athlete was borne out by victories in the 2016 Santa Anita Derby, Preakness, and Haskell Invitational and a second-place finish in the Kentucky Derby. His record was an odd mix of rousing scores on rainy afternoons combined with somnolent wanderings through important engagements in the Belmont, Travers, and, finally, the Pennsylvania Derby. The horse owed us nothing, said trainer Keith Desormeaux, who also owned a minority interest in Exaggerator. But for him to get beat in his last two races was disappointing. I wanted him to go out on a higher note.WinStar bought into Exaggerator before the Kentucky Derby and was along for the Preakness and Haskell rides, but the farms real payoff always figured to be after retirement. My judgment in this matter is secondary to the business of promoting and putting a stallion out there, Desormeaux said. It was a marketing thing, jumping on the Curlin bandwagon. Hes as hot as they come, and theres not many sons of Curlin out there yet.No one should begrudge an ownership group for taking money out of the business after putting money in. Still, the retirement of a reportedly sound classic winner before his fourth birthday goes contrary to racings uphill battle to nurture its stars. Exaggerators fans spent most of their time praying for rain and yet longing for the day when he would unleash a grand moment on a dry track.A horse like that doesnt leave the barn without some degree of sadness, Desormeaux said. The good ones are hard to come by.So, the pages are turned, again. There will be no Exaggerator in the Breeders Cup Classic for the Desormeaux stable, but it has high hopes for Miss Southern Miss, the winner of the Surfer Girl Stakes at Santa Anita last Monday. She will run in the Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.As for Unusual Heat, Barry Abrams predicts the old boy will be one of the best broodmare sires around, and he might be onto something. On the same afternoon as the Surfer Girl, Big Score, out of the Unusual Heat mare Not Unusual, won the Zuma Beach Stakes to set himself up for the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf. ' ' '

That means that Marc Bartra will probably start again in the centre of the defence alongside Gerard Pique.1 Nick ComptonBack-to-back centuries in New Zealand suggested Compton had what it takes as a Test opener. But he never again reached 20 as an opener and was dropped ahead of the 2013 Ashes. Perhaps, with more sensitive man-management, he might have fared better but when recalled for a stint at No. 3 (he had one more innings as an opener), he again started well and then faded.***2 Joe RootPromoted to open in the 2013 Ashes, Root made one memorable century at Lords - during which he was dropped early - but otherwise only passed 30 once in the series. In retrospect, it was premature elevation for a man still learning his trade. After briefly losing his place at the end of the 2013-14 Ashes, he returned to establish himself as one of the best middle-order players in the world. Briefly returned, with success, to the top of the order in the Mohali Test when Hameed was indisposed.***3 Michael CarberryOne of the more unfortunate players on this list, five of Carberrys six Tests came against an outstanding Australia attack featuring Mitchell Johnson at his best and Ryan Harris not far from his. Carberry performed as well as anyone: he faced more balls than any England player in the series and only Kevin Pietersen scored more runs. But having passed 50 only once he was dropped as England looked to rebuild at the end of the series.***4 Sam RobsonBorn in Sydney but with a mother from Nottinghamshire, Robson represented Australia Under-19s before committing his future to England. A century in his second Test promised much but some uncertainty around off stump - he was bowled four times and caught in the cordon five times in 11 Test innings - undermined his progress. He was dropped at the end of the 2014 English season having failed to reach 40 in his final four Tests.***5 Jonathan TrottAn ill-fated return as opening batsman in the Caribbean in early 2015 never threatened to work out. Although he made one half-century in helping Cook post an opening stand of 125 in Grenada, he was dismissed for three ducks and two other scores under 10 in six innings. He later admitted he knew he was screwed as soon as he walked out to bat in the first Test of the series with the anxiety issues that had previously plagued him returning with a vengeance.***6 Adam LythLike Robson, Lyth also made a century in his second Test - in front of his Yorkshire faithful at Headingley, no less. But he was unable to kick on from that solid beginning. He only reached 20 once more and never again passed 40 - his next highest score of 37 came in the opening Test of that summers Ashes at Cardiff. Increasingly loose outside off stump, he averaged just 12.77 in the series.***7 Moeen AliMoeens promotion from No. 8 (he had actually batted at 9 in two of the final three Ashes innings of August 2015) was always likely to prove testing but, with England looking foor a way to squeeze a second spinner into the side for their three-match series in the UAE, Moeen was - as ever - the man asked to compromise.dddddddddddd He started well enough, adding 116 with Cook in the first innings of the series, but from there his form and confidence fell away sharply. In five other innings he failed to reach 25.8 Alex HalesAfter a tricky start against South Africa, there were times Hales seemed close to cracking it in Test cricket. Three times in five innings he passed 80 against Sri Lanka without converting to that elusive maiden century. He was also never quite able to convert the fluency of his limited-overs cricket to the longer game and, after averaging 18.12 in the four-Test series against Pakistan, the selectors let it be known that he would not have been taken to Bangladesh even if he had not opted out of the tour due to security fears. With the opportunities available to him (and the demands placed upon him) by limited-overs cricket it is entirely possible that future Test opportunities will elude him.***9 Ben DuckettPromoted on the back of an outstanding county season, Ducketts struggles demonstrated how great the divide between Division Two of the county championship and Test cricket has grown. He was, perhaps, unfortunate to make his debut on tracks offering substantial assistance to spin bowlers but some technical flaws were soon exploited and though he made one fine, counter-attacking half-century before being moved down the order, it was an exciting rather than a secure innings. He is young and talented enough to come again.***10 Haseeb HameedAlthough the raw stats look underwhelming, they do not capture the composure and assurance Hameed demonstrated in his first three Tests. Missing out on a century on debut as he attempted to up the pace and set up a declaration, he nevertheless set a new highest score for a teenager in Test cricket for England and demonstrated both technique and temperament while batting 50 overs for 25 as England battled for a draw in Vizag. Arguably his best innings to date was made at No. 8 after sustaining a badly broken finger, but it was made, in part, against the new ball and demonstrated a wider range of stroke than had been apparent before. It would be a surprise - and a disappointment - if he is not Cooks opening partner for the last few years of Cooks career.***11 Keaton JenningsCalled up following an outstanding domestic season (in which he scored more Division One runs than anyone), an injury to Hameed and the loss of form of Duckett, Jennings is the 11th man to partner Cook in Test cricket since the retirement of Andrew Strauss in August 2012.*Individual records reflect innings played as opening batsmen only ' ' '

  • KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- All-Pro safety Eric Berry plans to report to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, giving him two weeks and one preseason game to prepare for the start of the regular season.A person familiar with his plans told The Associated Press that Berry will join the team after its preseason game Saturday in Chicago. The person spoke on condition of anonymity Friday because he was not authorized to discuss Berrys plans publicly.Berry was given the franchise tag early in the offseason but has not signed the deal, which means he could skip all of training camp without being fined. Once he signs the one-year contract, he will make just over $10.8 million, making him the leagues highest-paid safety.Chiefs coach Andy Reid and general manager John Dorsey have said all along they expect Berry to report ahead of the regular season, but it was never clear when that might happen.Kansas City plays its first regular-season game Sept. 11 against San Diego.I think its important to see what kind of shape he is in and then gradually bring him back into the football speed of things, Reid said Tuesday, when asked what Berry will need to do to get up to speed. I dont think its the end of the world if he doesnt play in the last preseason game. The most important thing is to put eyes on him and see what kind of shape he is in, Reid said, so we dont put him at risk out there. The Chiefs had hoped to sign Berry to a long-term deal in the offseason, but the two sides were never close to reaching an agreement by the July 15 deadline. The Chiefs remain optimistic they can sign him after this season, though Berry will demand a premium on the free-agent market. It was somewhat surprising that the sides were so far apart, given the goodwill between them. The Chiefs stood by Berry when he was diagnosed with lymphoma, and Dorsey and others in the front office regularly visited him in Atlanta during treatment. Meanwhile, Berry has been steadfast in his love for the Chiefs, who made him a first-round pick out of Tennessee. Its a weird dynamic that you are juggling with finances and playing, Reid said earlier in camp, but Ive seen it before, guys normally come in and they just go. When its time to play, they just play. They put the business side aside and they get after it.Berry played in every game last season, less than a year after his cancer diagnosis. He made 55 tackles, had a pair of interceptions and resumed his role as the heart and soul of the defense. Were missing him right now -- we want him back ASAP, cornerback Marcus Peters said, but we cant do anything about it, but we for sure miss him.---AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and AP NFL Twitter feed: http://twitter.com/AP-NFLFake Yeezy China . -- Jimmie Johnson held off a teammate, passed a pair of Hall of Famers, and dominated once more at Dover. PETERSBURG, Fla.STORRS, Conn. -- Geno Auriemma mightve felt like he had developed multiple personalities this season, and his Connecticut Huskies hadnt even played their home opener yet.The Huskies kept their massive winning streak alive but looked mortal in a two-point win at Florida State on Monday. So as the Huskies raised their latest championship banner high to the rafters of Gampel Pavilion on Thursday, Auriemma and likely the entire state of Connecticut were curious about this latest edition of UConn basketball. After losing perhaps the greatest -- if not the most decorated -- big three that womens college basketball has ever seen in Breanna Stewart, Moriah Jefferson and Morgan Tuck, UConn paid homage to championship No. 11 with perhaps more questions than it has banners entering a showdown with No. 2 Baylor.Im really struggling with what the expectations should be for this team, Auriemma wondered aloud. It has kind of been a real headache-inducing kind of thing for me because I cant figure out what should the expectations be. Should the expectations be, This is Connecticut basketball. Of course you should be in the Final Four and play in the national championship game. And right after I think that, I think, You got to be out of your mind, why would you expect that from this particular group? And then right after I say, Why are you disrespecting these guys?[Then I think] are you going to be like everybody else and expect these guys to not miss a beat? So every day for me has been up and down, up and down, up and down.Auriemma sounds as if hes got as many voices in his head as the tortured Gollum. But college basketballs Lord of the Rings might have his latest freshman gem in Crystal Dangerfield. The 5-foot-5 Dangerfield might have been the smallest player on the court, but no one played bigger as the freshman scored 9 of her 19 points in the second half to lead UConn to a 72-61 victory over Baylor. The third-ranked Huskies (2-0) extended their winning streak to 77 by breaking open a 54-54 tie with 7:27 remaining with a 16-2 run. The surge didnt just finish the Lady Bears (2-1), but it seemed to silence -- for now -- some of the questions about whether this Huskies team can carry on their elite tradition. And Dangerfield did her best to calm some of Auriemmas doubts. The espnW HoopGurlz third-rated recruit in the country buried 8 of 14 shots, including 3 of 5 from behind the arc. She shot her jumper with confidence and spoke afterward the way she shot the ball. She reminded reporters that she has played in big games for USA Basketball, won Tennessee state championships in high school and plenty of other big games in a prolific high school career that included a scoring record of 2,186 points at Blackman High School.A game like that didnt faze me, Dangerfield said after beating Baylor. Big stage. Big game. I love games like this. When UConn struggled in the first half and headed into the loocker room at intermission looking vulnerable with a 32-29 lead, Dangerfield was one of the bright spots for the Huskies with 10 points.ddddddddddddBaylor, which returned four starters from a 36-2 squad the season before, began to flex its muscle in the paint with a 9-2 run to open the third quarter as Kalani Brown and Beatrice Mompremier set an aggressive tone early out of the break. Baylor, which was led by senior guard Alexis Jones game-high 23 points, led 38-34 and the Gampel Gang grew quiet wondering if the Huskies were in trouble. But Kia Nurse scored on a layup and Dangerfield drilled a jumper to tie the score at 38. A couple of minutes later, Dangerfield assisted Katie Lou Samuelson on a 3-pointer and Gabby Williams on a layup. Then she knocked down a 3 of her own and assisted on two more UConn baskets to give the Huskies a five-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.Baylor was within four midway through the fourth, but Dangerfield responded with two steals as UConn picked up its defense. Dangerfield added a layup and then pretty much sealed the game with a jumper with 1:10 remaining to push the Huskies up 10.With Baylor touting what some believe is the best recruiting class in the country with three top-40 recruits, including espnW HoopGurlz No. 1 recruit Lauren Cox and No. 8 prospect Natalie Chou, Dangerfield was the best freshman on the floor Thursday.I dont want to say shes as good as any point guard that we have ever had, Auriemma said. That is saying too much too soon. But I think any other freshman in the country right now -- she is as good a guard as there is in the country coming in.Jefferson remains the measuring stick. The last time we saw Moriah, she was the best guard in the country, he said. Crystal coming in, out of high school, was a little further ahead than Moriah coming out of high school. ... Will she be further ahead three years from now? I just hope she catches up.On the night UConn unfurled its latest banner -- so new it still has creases in it -- Auriemma unwrapped what could be his next great talent. Perhaps Dangerfield is the recruiting prize that comes from the first class to ever win four straight national championships, led by a legendary trio that went 1-2-3 in the WNBA draft.Who knows if Dangerfield will reach the same heights as so many other stars in this storied program. One thing seems certain: The freshman doesnt lack any confidence in her game. What did she show Auriemma on Thursday?I wont disappear in big games, Dangerfield said. I just want to attack and be in those situations. I am not going to shy away from it. I feel like I have the experience to do it, so Ill be there.I know there are a lot of people that dont believe in us this year. We want to send a message every night we step on the floor. ' ' '

Three men were out for 110 in Sri Lankas Test last week. Was this some sort of record? asked Tushar Trivedi from India (and many others) Those 110s by Kusal Perera, Upul Tharanga and Dimuth Karunaratne for Sri Lanka against Zimbabwe in Harare last week did set a new mark for the highest score made three times in the same Test match. The previous-highest three-peat was 99, by Dennis Amiss, Majid Khan and Mushtaq Mohammad in the match between Pakistan and England in Karachi in 1972-73. The previous-highest scored three times by the same team was 78, by Desmond Haynes, Viv Richards and Richie Richardson for West Indies against New Zealand in Port-of-Spain in 1984-85.South Africa have won their last three Tests at Perth. Has anyone else managed this against Australia? asked Mikkel de Vries from South Africa Youre right in thinking that Australia have a good record at the WACA ground in Perth - they have won 24 of the 43 matches there, and have drawn eight. Of their 11 defeats, South Africa have been responsible for the last three, in 2008-09, 2012-13 and 2016-17; the Proteas drew their only other Test there (in 2005-06), so are undefeated in Perth. England have won there only once, against an under-strength Aussie team during the World Series Cricket era in 1978-79; New Zealand pulled off their one and only victory in 1985-86, when Richard Hadlee took 11 wickets; and India won in 2007-08. But West Indies won their first five Tests at the WACA - in 1975-76, 1984-85, 1988-89, 1992-93 and 1996-97 - before coming down to earth with an innings defeat in 2000-01, and suffered another reverse in 2009-10.Apparently the Aussie collapse at Perth was the third-worst for a team whose openers put on 150 or more. What are the two entries above this? asked Stuart from South Africa In the first Test against South Africa in Perth, Australia lost all ten wickets for 86 after David Warner and Shaun Marsh put on 158 for the first wicket. The only two lower totals after an opening stand of 150-plus were both by Zimbabwe: in their second innings against West Indies in Bulawayo in July 2001 they collapsed from 164 for 0 to 228 all out, then six months later in January 2002 they reached 153 for 0 in their first innings against Sri Lanka in Galle, only to subside to 236 all out, with five wickets apiece for Muttiah Muralitharan and Sanath Jayasuriya. The lowest completed innings to include a 150 partnership for any wicket is Sri Lankas 216 against South Africa in Durban in 2000-01 - Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene added 168 for the third wicket, but the other nine batsmen managed just 35 runs between them. How many players have scored more than 200 runs in a Test over two innings without being dismissed, as Kraigg Brathwaite did for West Indies against Pakistan? asked Savo Ceprnich from South Africa It was a slight surprise to discover that Kraigg Brathwaite, who made 142 and 61 - both not out - for West Indies against Pakistan in Sharjah last week, comes in only 17th on this particular list. Its headed by the New Zealander Stephen Fleming, with 343 runs in undefeated innings of 274 and 69 against Sri Lanka in Colombo in April 2003; Sachin Tendulkar also made more than 300 runs over two innings in a Test without getting out, with 241 and 60 for India v Australia in Sydney in 2003-04. The most runs in a Test without getting out is, of course, Brian Laras 400 not out in just one innings for West Indies against England at St Johns in 2003-04. I was even more surprised, however, to realise that Brathwaite was the first opener ever to remain undefeated in both innings of a Test match.Who are the youngest and oldest players to appear in 100 Test matches? asked Timothy Rankin from England The youngest man at the time of his 100th Test cap was Englands Alastair Cook, who was 28 years 353 years old when he reached three figures, in Perth in 2013-14 (he undoubtedly hoped for a better result: Australia won by 150 runs). Cook beat Sachin Tendulkars previous mark - he was 29 years 134 days old when he played his 100th Test, for India against England at The Oval in 2002. All the other 62 players to date who have won 100 or more caps were over 30 when they reached their century; the oldest remains Geoff Boycott, 40 years 254 days old against Australia at Lords in 1981. Clive Lloyd (in 1983-84) and Graham Gooch (1992-93) were both 39 at the time of their 100th caps. Who has taken the most catches in his first-class career? asked Sivaraman Narayanaan from India There are nine men - eight of them wicketkeepers - who have taken more than 1000 catches in their first-class careers. All of them had long county careers in England, and top of the pile is Bob Taylor, who started with Derbyshire in 1960 and played on for them to 1988, when he was 47. Taylor, who also appeared in 57 Tests, finished with 1473 catches; 176 stumpings gave him 1649 dismissals all told, another record. The only outfielder on the list is Frank Woolley, with 1018 for Kent and England during a career that stretched from 1906 to 1938, by which time he was 51. The next man to join the list ought to be Nottinghamshires Chris Read, who ended the 2016 English season with 995 catches. Its not too fanciful to suggest that Read will be the last man ever to reach four figures - the next current player on the list is the 36-year-old Essex keeper James Foster, with 775.Post your questions in the comments belowYeezy Wholesale Authentic .
