TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida States Jimbo Fisher says he would rather be talked about than not, even if it is about his coaching future.Fisher was frequently asked about his interest in LSU the past two months after Les Miles was fired. Those questions were put to rest Saturday after Ed Orgeron had the interim title removed. This has been the second straight season Fishers name has been mentioned about openings. He doesnt think it will be the last. When youre successful, people do that, Fisher said after his No. 12 Seminoles defeated No. 15 Florida 31-13 on Saturday. When I was at LSU, Coach (Nick) Saban had it every year. Every year I was ever around him he was going to 32 different jobs. It was 10 times worse as far as jobs and things.Besides Saban, Fisher mentioned another one of his former bosses when it comes to dealing with coaching rumors. Fisher is quick to point out that Bobby Bowden had to deal with such questions during his first 10 years coaching Florida State. The difference though between LSU and other openings was Fishers history with the school. He was the offensive coordinator there for seven seasons before coming to Florida State.Fisher said the only time he brings up his future with the team is when he was asked directly by players or recruits. He also added that there werent too many questions about whether he was remaining at Florida State.Im straight honest with them. They can read my body language. They can read me. If they ask, I tell them. They know, he said. Theres a trust factor, and I trust them, and hopefully they trust me.Defensive end DeMarcus Walker and running back Dalvin Cook said they didnt ask Fisher about such things.Fisher and his team watched a documentary about Bowden the night before facing Florida. After the win over the Gators, Fisher accomplished something in seven years that took Bowden 34 -- beat Miami and Florida the same season five times.Florida State President John Thrasher said last week he was confident Fisher would stay. There is a possibility Fishers contract could be renegotiated again. The current deal, signed in 2015, pays Fisher more than $5 million a season and runs through 2022. The buyout clause, though, drops from $5 million to $3 million on Jan. 1.Thrasher said Florida State would not get into a bidding war with other schools over Fisher, but there might be room for a slight raise. If theres something he wants, well look for it, he said.Florida State (9-3) was ranked fourth in the preseason and was expected to contend for a spot in the College Football Playoff. But a 42-point loss at No. 16 Louisville on Sept. 17 and subsequent defeats to North Carolina and No. 3 Clemson knocked the Seminoles out of the discussion.FSU, however, has been playing its best football of the season since the loss to the Tigers on Oct. 29. Bolstered by the play of Cook and a pass rush that leads the nation in sacks, the Seminoles have won four straight. With Louisville losing two straight, FSU possibly could find itself in the Orange Bowl if Clemson beats Virginia Tech in the ACC championship game and the Seminoles are the second-highest ranked conference team in the CFP standings.I think we have a bright future. I really do, Fisher said. Im anxious for the bowl season. NEWARK, N.J. -- The Calgary Flames are in full rebuilding mode, and their three first-round picks could play a major role in that process. Thats their thinking after taking forwards Sean Monahan, Emile Poirier and Morgan Klimchuk in Sundays NHL draft. General manager Jay Feaster had opportunities to trade picks for immediate help, but it wasnt difficult to resist that. "At the end of the day for us there were guys that they were a year or two years away from unrestricted free agency," Feaster said. "Were committed to the rebuild, and we talked about it as a management group and said its not the right way to go about the rebuild in terms of moving the picks for guys that are going to be UFAs." Monahan, the centre Calgary took sixth overall, is most likely the closest of the three to being NHL-ready. Feaster has already had conversations with Monahan about making the team next season. "I want to play. Thats my goal," Monahan said. "I want to play this year, and I think I can. I want to make an impact and I want to be a reliable player out there, too." The Flames could use reliable players after trading winger Jarome Iginla and defenceman Jay Bouwmeester last season. Hes interested in trading Michael Cammalleri, too, and younger players are expected to fill those holes. Monahan was the captain and leading scorer of the Ottawa 67s of the Ontario Hockey League, who went 16-46. He knows a thing or two about being part of a rebuilding effort like whats going on in Calgary. "Im looking forward to it," he said..dddddddddddd. "Its going to be a challenge and Im always up for a challenge. I think Im going to be a part of that team and help that team win, so its going to be a fun time." Feaster mentioned a desire to add more size throughout the organization, and the Flames did so in the six-foot-two Monahan, six-foot-one Poirier, the 22nd pick. Talent, not size, was the focus. "We didnt base anything on any of these three guys on size," director of scouting Tod Button said. "Size was an added bonus. Theyre all good-size kids. They all play the game properly. Theyre not shy, they play in traffic. So thats more important to us than their actual physical stature." Demeanour may have been a factor, too. Monahan and Klimchuk, the 28th pick, have proven to be focused individuals. "Theyre serious about being pro hockey players and for sure that helps," Button said. "We dont look at it as a negative if a kid has a little bit more of a loose side, but for sure Sean and Morgan are serious about where they want to go and what they want to be when they get older." Theres not much about the Flames that will be old next season, unless Feaster is unable to trade Cammalleri and goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff decides to return. Right now the idea seems to be getting younger, and they did so with their first-rounders. "I think 20 minutes after the first round everybody comes away satisfied," Button said. "I dont think youll find anybody that says, I cant believe we took him. Were really excited." ' ' '
